Web portals, also called science gateways, allow users to run software on remote supercomputers via a web browser.

SPECFEM3D Globe Web Portal by Sue Kientz — last modified 2008-06-06 07:05 AM
Provides automated and on-demand simulations, e.g., seismic wave propagation and synthetic seismograms. This site launches a simulation on remote supercomputers (mostly TeraGrid machines) using data gathered from various web sites and databases, and returns the results to the user.
MAG Web Portal by Sue Kientz — last modified 2008-03-03 02:47 AM
Allows you to run the geodynamo code MAG without compiling it locally. Create and submit a MAG job to a selected TeraGrid site, monitor its progress and, when complete, download a tar-ball with the job results to further analyze locally or visualize with IDL software. You can queue up a long serial run rather than tie up your local machine. MAG is a serial version of a rotating spherical convection/magneto-convection/dynamo code that solves the non-dimensional Boussinesq equations for time-dependent thermal convection in a rotating spherical shell filled with an electrically conducting fluid.
