The two low-viscosity zones on either side of your dike appear to BE
the faults. If you plot strain-rate you should see those zones
straining alot (am I right?). In my experience Gale typically
localizes strain on faults over 3-5 elements, which is consistent with
what I see in your plot. I assume the high viscosity zones on either
side are your "lithosphere". It is problematic if the thickness of the
brittle layer is NOT much greater than the width of the faults that
Gale can resolve. Try making the lithosphere 3-5 times thicker. Also,
the "initialDamage" parameters are designed to weaken one side of the
dike so a fault localizes on this one side initially. You might double
check to see that this damage is being initalized correctly.<br>
