Software development & releases

1. Development versions of all CIG software can be checked out of our SVN repository. More details.
2. Short-term crustal dynamics. Work continues on PyLith, a finite element code for simulation of pre- and post-seismic deformation & earthquake rupture propagation. Contact Matt Knepley with your questions
3. Long-term crustal dynamics. CIG has released the development plans for GALE, Geodynamics Arbitrary Lagrangian Eulerian code. This will be a fully parallel, 3D code for crustal, lithospheric and mantle problems. More details. Contact Walter Landry with your questions
4. Mantle convection. CIG recently released CitcomS.py Version 2.0.1 and CitcomCU 1.0.0, spherical and Cartesian finite element codes for mantle convection problems. Contact Luis Armendariz with your questions
5. Computational seismology. The SPECFEM3D global and regional seismic wave propagation code is now available from CIG. The Minos-Bran 1-D normal mode code is available from the SVN repository. Contact Leif Strand with your questions

Workshop and training sessions

1. Compressible mantle convection workshop in late March, 2006 at Purdue University. Space is limited and those interested should contact the organizers, Scott King (sking@purdue.edu) and Shijie Zhong (szhong@spice.colorado.edu)
2. Long-term tectonics workshop, GEOMOD, focused on benchmarking numerical and laboratory models will be co-sponsored by CIG. This is scheduled for approximately the June time frame in Europe. CIG will support several members of the US community to participate. Please subscribe to the cig-long listserv to get more frequent updates.
3. Computational seismology training session to be held the day before the IRIS annual meeting in June, 2006. Please subscribe to the cig-seismo listserv to get more frequent updates.

Committees, staff etc.

Cassie Ferguson, our technical writer and web manager, recently gave birth to a 6 lb son. She's currently on maternity leave, but she is due back early next year.

The Executive Committee welcomes Brad Hager (MIT) as its newest member and wishes to thank Carl Gable (LANL) for his dedicated service to CIG.

The Executive Committee will soon ask Member Representatives to participate in a virtual meeting via Tele-conference to consider two changes to the ByLaws. EC Chairman Mark Richards will be sending an e-mail shortly.
