That is also almost certainly true. The DataOut class can deal with 
outputting information on cells that are not active but on lower levels 
of the hierarchy. It would certainly be a feasible idea to generate 
output only for cells no deeper than level X in the mesh hierarchy if 
you don't intend to zoom too far into the visualization.
