I don't think it actually does. In the "chaotic" phase, both fluxes will 
vary with time. What levels out (or should, at least) is the time *average*.

Yes, let us know. The model shown in the video I posted took a long time 
to compute (days, on 16 processors IIRC) for the entire time history. 
Give it a few more hours. In fact, compared to your first email, you 
already have the uptick in heat flux which may be the first part of the 
separation of the second set of plumes.
