Hi all,
It has been a while since the last development update, but in the recent
weeks some important changes happened, and I would like to bring
everyone up-to-date with a few announcements.
1. The ASPECT project has grown continuously over the last five years,
and while it was started by the enormous effort made by Timo and
Wolfgang, this success was not possible without the awesome work of the
whole community. In particular, we are excited that many in our
community have started to take over leadership roles themselves, such as
reviewing other member's pull requests, answering questions on the
mailing list, organizing tutorials, doing maintenance work in the
repository, and promoting ASPECT at conferences. We feel that this work
should be rewarded properly, and decided to expand the team of ASPECT
developers. Please congratulate our new ASPECT developers:
Jacky Austermann
Menno Fraters
Anne Glerum
John Naliboff
We want to emphasize that of course the distinction between an
experienced user and a developer taking over leadership for the project
as a whole is somewhat fuzzy, and we hope that nobody feels unjustly
excluded from the list. We will discuss the list of future developers on
a regular basis between all current developers and make adjustments as
appropriate.
2. Historically, ASPECT developed out of the deal.II library, and that
was reflected by its website aspect.dealii.org. Since it has grown to a
sizeable project on its own, and also to gain some flexibility in
regards to web administration, we decided to move the website to a new
address.
aspect.geodynamics.org
will be our new website (thanks to CIG for the subdomain, and Timo and
Juliane for all the work). The new website is organized in a git
repository, currently as a separate branch www in the main repo, but we
evaluate this and it might change to a separate repository. Therefore,
changes to the website can be made the same way you would make changes
to the code itself. Feel free to correct typos, announce tutorials, or
improve the documentation by opening a pull request against this branch.
The old website still exists, but will simply forward to the new page.
We hope that this change allows for a more up-to-date website, and
easier maintenance for all of us.
Thats it for today, thanks for reading.
Looking forward to seeing some of you at the workshop in the Netherlands
next week,
Best,
Rene
