[aspect-devel] Aspect-devel Digest, Vol 71, Issue 14 - Plate reconstruction

Hi Eleonora,

I suppose that by 'jumps to the 200 and 201 files' you mean it reads the
files numbered 200 and 201 of your series? This can have two causes. The
first is that your timestep is actually that big. The timestep in ASPECT
depends on the cell where the ratio between cell size and velocity is
largest, i.e. if velocities in your model are essentially zero then the
timestep will be huge. The length of the timestep should be mentioned in
your screen output, is it around 200 million years? The second reason
could be that ASPECT thinks each velocity file only covers a very short
time period. Because you can create velocity files in GPlates in
arbitrary time steps, you need to tell ASPECT how large the timespan
between two subsequent files is. The corresponding parameter is 'Data
file time step' in the 'GPlates model' subsection. Its default is 1e6,
which usually means a million years and should match your data. If
however your model expects input and output in seconds instead of years
(the parameter 'Use years in output instead of seconds' is set to false)
then you will need to convert the 1e6 into seconds or change the model
to use years instead of seconds.

Hope that helps,

Rene
