Software development & releases

1. CIG Development Priorities. CIG is now posting and updating its
latest development priorities on the Geodynamics.org website. This
feature will give you information about the availability of new software
with our best estimate of release dates. Please periodically check this
page. It can easily be accessed from the "Priorities" tab near the top
of the homepage or directly from:
http://www.geodynamics.org:8080/cig/priorities

2. CitComS Bug Fix Release v. 2.0.2 is now available. This release fixes
a number of reported bugs and typos and now builds on 64-bit machines.
CitComS is a finite element code designed to solve thermal convection
problems relevant to earth's mantle.

3. CitComCU Bug Fix Release 1.0.1 is now available. Bug fixes involving
variable declarations. Switched to ANSI C style. CitComCU is a finite
element parallel code designed to solve, on a three dimensional regional
domain, thermochemical convection problems relevant to the earth's mantle.

4. Subversion Viewer. WebSVN, a PHP-based web interface to the
Subversion version control system server, is operational. Users can now
visually navigate CIG codes including CitComS, CitComCU, Lithomop and
their revisions.

5. Submit bugs to the CIG Bug Tracker. CIG is now using a ticket system
called Roundup to accept and track bug reports for CIG software and manuals.

Workshop and training sessions

1. March 27-28, 2006. CIG-MC Workshop. Scott King and Shijie Zhong are
organizing a focused workshop on compressible mantle convection to be
held in West Lafayette, Indiana. Please contact: Scott King
<sking at purdue.edu> or Shijie Zhong <Shijie.Zhong at colorado.edu>

2. June 26-30. CIG Fault Systems and Tectonic Modeling, co-sponsored by
SCEC and NASA (seeking funding). The focus will be on the science
associated with simulating pre- and post-seismic crustal deformation and
training researchers in the use and customization of PyLith and GeoFest,
a JPL code for crustal deformation. Golden, Colorado on the campus of
the Colorado School of Mines. Please contact: Mark Simons
<simons at caltech.edu> or Carl Gable <gable at lanl.gov>. Register at
http://www.geodynamics.org

3. July 9-14. Studies of Earth's Deep Interior (SEDI). An informal
discussion of community geodynamo codes under the CIG umbrella is
planned. Prague, Czech Republic. Please contact: Peter Olson <olson at jhu.edu>

4. July 16-Aug 04. CIDER Workshop. CIG training session for mantle
dynamics to be held as part of the CIDER workshop to be held at the
Kavli Institute of Theoretical Physics in Santa Barbara.
http://www.deep-earth.org/summer06.html Please contact: Peter van Keken
<keken at umich.edu>

5. August 2006. Magma Migration Workshop. The workshop addresses
community needs and priorities for software development in magma
dynamics. Columbia University, New York. Please contact: Marc Spiegelman
<mspieg at ldeo.columbia.edu> or Laurent Montesi <lmontesi at whoi.edu>

6. Fall 2006. Scientific Computing Workshop. The workshop, designed to
bring together mathematicians, computational scientists and
geoscientists, will address meshing, solvers, graphics, and other common
issues in computational geophysics. Austin, Texas. Please contact:
Wolfgang Bangerth <bangerth at math.tamu.edu> or Omar Ghattas
<omar at ices.utexas.edu>

7. Fall 2006. Imaging Science and CIG Computational Seismology Workshop.
Please contact: Alan Levander <alan at mail.mail.rice.edu>

Committees, Staff, Etc.

CIG is currently searching for a staff member in software development
and systems administration.

Walter Landry, CIG Software Engineer, is still celebrating the birth of
his daughter Brooke, a nearly 7.5-pounder born in December.

Technical writer Cassie Ferguson has returned from maternity leave.
Photos of her son, Ethan, can be found in her page on the
Geodynamics.org website.
