Dear CIG Community:

Attached is the CIG Quarterly Newsletter for November 2012. The newsletter
features:

. announcements of new Executive and Science Steering Committee
members and new CIG Staff,

. a roundup of recent workshop activity, and

. information on CIG activities at AGU including the Annual Business
Meeting.

We continue to actively soliciting both feedback on and contributions to
newsletter content. In particular, contributions needed from the community
are:

. Research Highlights

. Recent Publications

. Webinar Speaker suggestions

Newsletters will continue to be available for download through our website.

Please also save Thursday November 15, 2012 @ 2pm PT for our next CIG
Webinar featuring Timo Heister from TAMU. Timo's talk, "Modern Numerical
Methods for Modeling Convection in the Earth's Mantle" builds on the
previous seminar applying the deal.II library to ASPECT to model convection
in the earth's mantle. In this webinar, Timo will step through the many
ingredients necessary for a modern simulation code: time discretization,
nonlinear methods, linear solvers, stabilization, adaptivity, and
parallelization. Finally, the effectiveness is shown in several numerical
examples in real time.

You may connect to the meeting through the link provided below or through
the home page at geodynamics.org. More complete instructions can also be
found at:

Thanks,

-Lorraine
