Dear colleagues,

We would like to draw your attention to our AGU Fall Meeting Session entitled "Seismic modeling and inversion: Theory and methodological developments" (session S020, ID# 8337).

This session is intended to serve as a platform for innovative developments that address grand challenges in seismic modeling and inversion. These include, but are not limited to the modeling of broadband seismic data, advances in noise modeling and seismic interferometry, the efficient exploitation of emerging HPC systems, improvements of full-waveform inversion, the joint inversion of different geophysical datasets, the quantification of uncertainties, probabilistic inversion, and the integration of data across widely varying scales from earthquakes and other sources such as ambient noise.

Confirmed invited presenters in our session are:

William Symes (Rice University): "Globalizing convergence of full waveform inversion via extended modeling"
Lucia Gualtieri (Columbia University): "Understanding andbu modeling seismic noise generation and propagation"
Kees Wapenaar (Delft University): "Beyond seismic interferometry: Imaging the Earth's interior with virtual earthquakes and virtual seismometers inside the Earth"
Nori Nataka (Stanford University): "Body-wave retrieval and imaging from ambient noise with very dense arrays"

This year's AGU Fall meeting will take place from December 14 - 18 in San Francisco (http://fallmeeting.agu.org/2015/). The abstract submission deadline is August 5.

We hope to see you at AGU!

Monica Maceira,

Carene Larmat,

Ebru Bozdag, and

Andreas Fichtner
