More detailed information will be posted as it becomes available on the CGU website at https://cgu-ugc.ca/meetings . > > The theme of the Meeting, which reflects the full range of the CGU’s scientific interests, is Addressing Challenges in Earth and Environmental Sciences, and scientific sessions are being invited for all areas of interest encompassed. > > At this time, we are inviting interested members of all sections to propose scientific sessions and workshops. We also encourage the proposal of sessions covering subjects that may attract interest across two or more sections. To plan a session for the 2020 Annual Meeting, please submit your proposal, using the attached template, to info at cgu-ugc.ca . The proposal should include the concise session title, contact information and affiliation of the proposed session conveners or co-conveners, identification of the session Chair, a short paragraph of up to 220 words describing the scientific content and identification of a primary CGU section that will sponsor and therefore co-ordinate the session. All session proposals must be received by November 22, 2019, 11:59 pm Pacific time. Notifications of accepted session proposals will be made during December 2019. On-line abstract submissions will be due in February 2020 (date to be announced). The deadline for workshop proposals (including mini-courses and all other activity requiring room bookings) will coincide with the abstract deadline. > > For session organizer/chair duties, the meeting organizers anticipate that conveners will encourage their contacts to submit abstracts for that session, will lead decisions on acceptance and scheduling of abstracts as oral and/or poster platform presentations and will chair or co-chair the running of that session at the Annual Meeting. The majority of sessions will be organized into 11⁄2-hour blocks of six 15-minute presentations (abstracts), however, organizers may choose to allot 30-45 minutes for invited speakers and 15-minutes for additional contributed presentations. Poster sessions will also be part of the scientific program. Final decisions on whether an oral session will be convened and the total number of oral and poster sessions on a particular topic will be a function of the number of abstracts submitted to the session. Note that the Annual Meeting does not cover travel expenses for invited speakers associated with proposed sessions. > > Scientific and plenary sessions of the Annual Meeting will take place from Monday, May 4 through Wednesday, May 6, 2020. A public lecture will be featured on the evening of May 3. Any particular requirements in terms of workshops, business meetings, courses and other Annual Meeting-related events may be accommodated but are dependent on available space.
