The 2021 PyLith hackathon will be held online over 7 days, June 7-10 (Mon-Thu) and June 14-16 (Mon-Wed), 2021. We plan to have 3-4 projects with 3-4 people working on each project. In addition to the list of potential projects below, prospective participants may also propose projects by sending an email to baagaard at usgs.gov<mailto:baagaard at usgs.gov>.

Prerequisites
* Experience using PyLith
* Comfortable running Unix commands via the command line
* Some coding experience (depends on the project)
* Available to do “homework” before the hackathon

We will work with applicants to refine the project scope/details before the hackathon.
* Poroelasticity: examples, benchmarks, fault implementation w/pore pressure
* Point sources: wells; seismic moment tensors
* Earthquake cycle modeling: start top-level implementation
* Gmsh integration: Gmsh Python scripts for existing examples
* Full scale tests: Create simulations with known solutions
* Documentation: Convert to MyST + Sphinx; examples as Jupyter notebooks
* Adaptive mesh refinement
* Viscoelastic bulk rheologies using strain rate
* Time-dependent Green's functions
