A post-doctoral scholar position in computational geodynamics is available at the University of Colorado at Boulder. The research involves developing models of mantle convection that integrate first order observations of plate tectonics to understand mantle dynamics and its roles in the dynamic history of the Earth in the last 500 Ma and beyond. The research is part of a NSF Frontier in Earth System Dynamics project that seeks understanding of the dynamical interplay between mantle dynamics, core dynamics, and Earth's surface processes. Therefore, the post-doctoral scholar is expected to contribute to and learn from the synergy between mantle dynamics and studies of core dynamics, volcanism, sea-level change, and paleo-climate.

A PhD in Geophysics or related field is required. The post-doctoral scholar is expected to have significant experience in numerical modeling of mantle convection, and experience in code development is also desired. The position can start immediately, and will remain open until a suitable candidate is found. The appointment is initially for one year but can be extended for the second year, depending on progress.

To apply, please go to https://www.jobsatcu.com/postings/89977, where you are expected to upload a cover letter, CV, and contact information for 2-4 references.

For more information, please contact Professor Shijie Zhong from the University of Colorado at Boulder at shijie.zhong at colorado.edu.
