Greetings Gale users:

I have a 2 to 3 year postdoctoral position available for adapting Underworld / Gale to simulate glacier dynamics and erosion. Please distribute this message to any interested persons. The position advertisement is below.

Best wishes,

Two Postdoctoral Researcher Positions: Surface Process Modeling

The Earth System Dynamics research group at the University of Tübingen, Germany, announces two open postdoctoral researcher positions in surface process modeling. Applications are sought from candidates with interest in quantifying interactions between climate change, tectonics, and topography in glacial settings. Previous experience in numerical modeling tectonic or geomorphic processes is desirable, but not required. Both positions involve testing model predictions with a diverse range of geomorphic, geochemical, glaciologic, and geologic data sets. Details of each position include:
Position 1 (two years): Application of an existing coupled climate, glacial, fluvial, and hillslope landscape evolution model to quantify landscape evolution processes in alpine glacial and pro-glacial environments. Emphasis is placed on understanding rates of sedimentation and erosion as a function of variable climate.
Position 2 (two years with possible extension to three): Modification of an existing 3D visco-plastic model to simulate ice sheet deformation, erosion, and mass balance as a function of variable climate and rheology. Model applications will focus on the Antarctic Ice Sheet, and selected alpine glaciers.
Both positions are available immediately and candidates should start as soon as possible. Salary is commensurate with experience (TV-L E13, 100%). Proficiency in English is required. Interested persons should send a CV with a list of peer review publications, a one-page statement of past and present research interests, and contact information for three persons familiar with the candidate’s research. Application materials (in PDF format) and questions concerning these positions should be directed to Prof. Todd Ehlers at todd.ehlers at uni-tuebingen.de. Applications are due October 22, 2010.
Candidates are expected to be active participants in an international and interdisciplinary work group environment. Additional information about the Earth System Dynamics research group is available at: http://esdynamics.geowissenschaften.uni-tuebingen.de/
The University of Tübingen is committed to increasing the proportion of women in research and teaching positions and therefore encourages qualified candidates to apply. Disabled persons will be given preference if equally qualified. Employment takes place via the Central Administration of the University.
