[CIG-MC] CitcomS on Teragrid

Hello Benjun,
One word of warning about using CitcomS on Ranger. We used CitcomCU on
Lonestar and found that when we tried to use it on
Ranger that our models actually ran slower. We attributed this to the
fact the Ranger is designed with many cores per node, but
only gigabit ethernet between the nodes and not enough sockets per
node to allow for efficient exchange of information between nodes.
Lonestar didn't have this problem because it was only 2 cores per
node, so it could handle exchanging the information between compute
nodes. The model we tested this for was running on about 380 cpus
(cores) with about 50 million mesh nodes.
I don't know how big your models are but you might need to do some
testing when you get things running to see what will run
efficiently on Ranger.
If anyone else on the list has experience with this, it would be great
to hear what other advice their is for running on Ranger
(perhaps there's a compiling optimization that alleviates this
problem???).
