[CIG-SEISMO] different results deriving from SPECFEM2D with two mesh-create-methods (Cubit and Gmsh)

That may be due to the grid dispersion. I noticed that the GMSH mesh is roughly three times coarser than the CUBIT mesh.

Thanks,

Hi,

This is indeed very surprising. First I would suggest that you use the latest stable version and verify that you have the same results.
If it is still the case, it is not possible to say which one is good or if they are both wrong. I suggest that you choose a configuration where an analytical solution is available so that you can have an answer to your question.
Please keep us inform of your progress.

Best regards

Hi,
I got very different results for the same model, while the only differences are the mesh-create-methods(one uses the software cubit and the other gmsh).
I wonder which is more right or if I missed anything when I use the SPECFEM2D program.
I checked the maximum skewness of both meshes but found noting abnormal. Both maximum is under 0.75.
A picture of the model and a figure that shows the different results are in the annex.
Both Meshes and essential parameter files are also attached just in case you may re-calculate these two example. By the way, the version I used is SPECFEM2D-6.1.5.
Any replies will be great appreciated and sorry for the inconvenience.
