I think you are getting lucky. The files you didn't change may be where 
all the issues related to incompatibility are, but there could be an 
incompatibility that you haven't encountered yet. If you get strange 
segmentation faults or errors coming from the Python modules when you 
change PyLith simulation parameters, it would indicate incompatibilities 
still exist. Rebuilding will definitely resolve these issues because 
everything will be consistent.
