[CIG-SHORT] Fault-bound blocks

Ok, I will give it a try to make sure it works. Can it get more complex (image below)? A TG fault with Fault 1 buried at one point and fault 2 buried at two points (on fault 1)? Or do all buried edges have to occur along the TG fault?

I’m not positive about this, but I think you can define the TG fault by having a nodeset with two buried edges at the ends. The other fault would need to stop one element away from that fault (it cannot share any nodes with the other fault). If you do this you will be restricted with your solution methods, as this problem is actually singular. You would not be able to use split_fields, for example. Matt and Brad may have some other ideas on this.

Actually, I think he can do this as originally stated. He should be able to define the TG fault. Then
define the other fault with two clamped ends that intersect the TG fault. This is just our T-intersection
example done twice.

Hi All,

I wanted to check on the feasibility of having a fault-bound block (see below). I would like to have the fault-bound block move on its own, with no shared triangular meshes with the other blocks. Can I create two nodesets of a single node at the locations where the fault meets the through-going (TG) fault and use those nodesets to bury the edge of the fault? I want to see how the individual fault-bound blocks in my model move when I change input parameters.

Thanks!
Bobby
