PyLith code development and modeling NSF/USGS internship
NSF has developed several programs that provide *supplemental funding*
to current grants to be used to support graduate student research at
federal agencies, such as the USGS. We have received approval for an
internship associated with PyLith code development and modeling. A
graduate student would spend up to 12 months in Menlo Park working
closely with the PyLith development team to adapt PyLith to
meet the demanding modeling needs of the student’s research.
The student would then use this expanded set of capabilities
to simulate earthquake- or volcanic-related crustal deformation
processes to answer a specific scientific question of interest
to the student. The desired outcome is that the student expands
their software development and numerical modeling skills, adds
features to PyLith, which can be leveraged by the broader
community, and makes a larger scientific step forward than the
student would otherwise be able to achieve.
Interested students are strongly encouraged to contact Brad Aagaard
(baagaard at usgs.gov) for more information and discussion of proposed
projects.
