Dear CIG Community:

Attached is the CIG Quarterly Newsletter for February 2013. The newsletter
features:

. Research highlights combining CitcomS and MAG,

. a roundup of upcoming Spring and Summer workshops activity, and

. request for input for CIG's rolling 5-year strategic plan.

We continue to actively soliciting both feedback on and contributions to
newsletter content. In particular, contributions needed from the community
are:

. Research Highlights

. Recent Publications

. Webinar Speaker suggestions

Newsletters will continue to be available for download through our website.

Please save Thursday, February 14 @ 2pm PT for our next CIG Webinar
featuring Sarah Minson from the US Geological Survey on Bayesian Earthquake
Modeling. Her seminar will provide an introduction to Bayesian analysis and
its advantages and disadvantages relative to traditional optimization
approaches for solving geophysical inverse problems. Bayesian methods have
particular value for solving ill-posed inverse problems. Demonstrations of
how to apply Bayesian methods to real geophysical problems will be given.
Although these examples will be drawn primarily from earthquake source
modeling, the methods and tools presented are completely generic and
applicable to a wide array of geophysical inverse problems, and the
discussion will be broadly directed to the modeling community.

You may connect to the meeting through the link provided below or through
the home page at geodynamics.org. More complete instructions can also be
found at:

Remember to test your connection before the beginning the webinar.

Thanks,

-Lorraine
