Melt migration in geodynamics simulations using ASPECT

Melt generation and migration are important processes for the evolution of the Earth's interior and impact the global convection of the mantle. 2016 INCITE GWG

The Geodynamo Working Group lead by Jon Aurnou was awarded an additional 150 million core-hours on the IBM Blue Gene/Q "Mira" for their project Frontiers in Planetary and Stellar Magnetism Through High Performance Computing. In 2015, Nick Featherstone worked with ALCF staff to optimize Rayleigh and completed the first  year milestones culminating in high-resolution as well as rotating solar convection simulations. Simulations utilized over 105 million core hours.
