Hi Metin,

Is SW4 you can setup a background material model using a series of block commands. You can set those to cover the entire computational domain or to limit them to have a limited extent x1/x2 y1/y2 z1/z2.

You can then overlay this background model with more detailed information. For instance, a pfile can be called after block commands to overlay they background with your Vs30 profiles. Have a look at the format of the pfile, it is a bit tricky because all profiles must have the same number of interfaces in them. This means that if you have a geological unit that is present in a small part of your domain and the pinches out to the sides, it will need to still be in all profiles but with a zero thickness.

I know that in the past, setting up domains with very large pfiles took a very long time. If this is the case, I would suggest trying to setup your domain using an rfile. This format is difficult to wrap your head around but is the most robust way to setup large domains with structural complexities.

Take a look at pySW4 for the model pre and post processing tasks. It might be of some help.
