Brad,
As you requested, a few lines on our work:
We (Gary Egbert and I) are in early stages of developing variational
data assimilation and inversion techniques for short-term geodynamic
problems. Currently, we are focussing our attention using GeoFEST as
a specific case study. In the coming year, we would only request CIG
share their expertise and experiences rather than any specific coding
tasks.
In next 2-3 years, we envision CIG could help develop codes or
perform software re-engineering for existing forward modeling
geodynamic codes (that the geodynamics community thinks could really
benefit from a formalized data assimilation methodology) in ways that
would expedite the handshake between the techniques being developed
at Oregon State University to various challenging short-term
geodynamics problems.
