Dear CIG Community,

In an effort to improve the service we provide to the
geophysics community, we plan to migrate all CIG mailing lists to a
hybrid of a discussion forum and mailing list. The forum will provide
you a searchable and open interface to locate present and past
discussion topics as well as a way for you to continue to give and
receive help to and from members of your community. You may
also interact via email similar to the current mailing list. It
will offer a simpler and more direct way of interacting with your
community, while including advanced features such as referencing Github
issues, exchanging figures or small datasets, filtering posts by tags,
and conducting polls. This action is the final phase roll out of the
forum for the entire CIG community. We encourage you to provide feedback
on what can be improved.

Our new forum is online at:

     https://community.geodynamics.org/

We have chosen the open source platform Discourse as a civilized
place to hold discussions. You can find out more about the underlying
platform by navigating here: https://www.discourse.org/. The forum
supports login using your GitHub account, or you can create a new
account (you can retire/unsubscribe the account you used for the CIG
mailing lists).

To begin:

1, Sign up by navigating to:

     https://community.geodynamics.org/login

2. Check your email and spam folder. User accounts are
automatically approved upon registering. Follow instructions to activate
your account.
3. Login in with your new account.
4. Read the header on the page that begins with “Welcome … “, and
the Code of Conduct.

At this point you should see the available forum categories that you can
watch and receive emails from.

There are quite a number of tweakable settings and features in
regards to the number and frequency of notifications you can receive
about the topics that interest you, so we encourage you to explore. You
may in particular wish to check your user settings 'Emails' and
'Notifications' to make sure you receive notifications about the
categories you are interested in. You can also look at posts in other
communities that have already transitioned to get a feeling for the new
interface.

We will modify the mailing lists in the coming days to add a note
about the transition to every delivered mail. We anticipate continuing
the forwarding until January 31, 2019 to ensure a smooth transition
and encourage you all to sign up early and help us make this a
robust platform for our community.

Problems or questions? Please send an email to:
help at geodynamics.org <mailto:help at geodynamics.org>

Thanks for your participation!

Best,
-Lorraine
