This is a good suggestion. Other options:
1. You can remove petsc from the list of packages to install in candi.cfg
2. change line 79 in deal.II-toolchain/packages/petsc.package to be
"python2 ./configure ...."
3. Wait until https://urldefense.proofpoint.com/v2/url?u=https-3A__github.com_dealii_candi_pull_60&d=DwIBaQ&c=Ngd-ta5yRYsqeUsEDgxhcqsYYY1Xs5ogLxWPA_2Wlc4&r=c08Btfq4m9QEScXN3ZQwLZzzWQE7S8CYq1IYuzKV_Zk&m=71UEot3shEhR119IQw9mXvQhdpYzOzLNwLRaCBaViio&s=YQl8sa33woNC9us8p3DPJSQtyDFNL1_eMQ1ON3dMpKw&e=  is merged.
