2024 ASPECT Hackathon
High Altitude
The Mountain Campus is high up in the mountains of Colorado at approximately 9000 feet (2700 meters). You should take the following precautions:
- Wear sun screen. Bring a sufficient supply for 10 days.
- The air is dry. Bring a water bottle. Carry it around each day and don't forget to hydrate.
- Expect overnight frost.
- Take it easy the first few days until you acclimatize.
Be aware of the symptoms of altitude sickness. For the mildest form, acute mountain sickness (AMS) these include:
- Headache (this is the most common symptom).
- Nausea and vomiting.
- Loss of appetite.
- Fatigue, even when resting.
- Malaise (a noticeable “unwell” feeling).
- Trouble sleeping.
- Dizziness or lightheadedness.
- Vision changes (while rare, these usually indicate more severe altitude sickness, and are due to blood vessel ruptures in your retinas).
