2016 SPECFEM3D Tutorial

Category: Workshop
Description:

In this tutorial we present SPECFEM3D package, which simulates seismic wave propagation in three-dimensional mediums. Two versions of the package are specifically designed to simulate seismic wave propagation at different scales: “Cartesian” version for local simulations and “Global” version for the simulations at the scale of the globe. The software is based on a spectral-element method, which, being a finite element formulation, accurately captures topographic effects and naturally takes into account the free-surface condition. A theory overview and the package organization will be followed by few examples, where synthetic seismograms will be generated for a realistic Earth model.

When: Friday 24 June, 2016, 8:00 am - 12:00 pm PDT
