2012 Mantle Convection and Lithospheric Dynamics Workshop
Category: | Workshop |
---|---|
Description: | This workshop is the 4th CIG sponsored workshop intended to bring together researchers who study the dynamics of the Earth’s mantle and lithosphere through numerical modeling. This workshop follows the meetings in Boulder, Colorado (2005), UC Davis (2008) and UC San Diego (2010). The meeting will focus on new numerical techniques, showcase existing and publicly supported software, and demonstrate scientific advances made using these computational techniques. There will be a balance between scientific presentations, technical discussions, hands-on opportunities and benchmark discussions. Technical issues of particular interest are: 1) Adaptive Mesh Refinement (AMR); 2) robust energy and Stokes’ equations solvers; 3) the interface of mantle and lithosphere dynamics and the role of melting and faulting; 4) implementation of multi-scale physics. |
