2020 CIG Community Workshop: Advancing Our Understanding of Earth Dynamics in CIG IV
Advancing Our Understanding of Earth Dynamics in CIG IV
13-15 October 2020
8:00A TO 12:30P PDT
15:00 to 19:30 UTC
virtual
The workshop brings together the geophysics community to address the science that drives computational geophysics and the development of state-of-the-art software. Outcomes from this workshop will inform the development of the CIG IV proposal in 2021. Building the capacity for leadership level computation and promoting the use of cutting-edge algorithms throughout the CIG community demands a broad vision that includes community education, resource development, and increasing and supporting computational expertise to make computing more approachable and accessible. The workshop intends to provide a forum to discuss opportunities and initiatives to meet community needs in supporting the practice of leading-edge, open science.
As CIG looks towards the future, we invite community input on CIG initiatives through participation in discussions and contributions of science, technology, infrastructure, and outreach posters. Participants from a wide range of disciplines in the computational and geosciences are encouraged to attend. We especially seek feedback from early-career scientists in creating the vision for the next phase of CIG to meet the future challenges in geodynamics.

IDEA TALKS
In support of advancing community input for CIG IV, community members are invited to submit an Idea Talk. An Idea Talk should share your vision of what activity the community should undertake in CIG IV by both clearly defining the problem and proposing approaches to address the identified issues.
Idea Talks will be presented during the plenary sessions.
Submit an abstract(< 1 page) to: events@geodynamics.org.
Deadline to submit your presentation is Friday September 4, 2020. CLOSED
POSTERS
Community members are encouraged to contribute presentations on science, technology, infrastructure, and outreach. Presentations should include a poster and a prerecorded talk no more than 5 minutes in length. Posters and prerecorded presentations will be available on figshare. Information on uploading to figshare is NOW AVAILABLE. See Posters-Instructions.
Attendees will be encouraged to view all presentations prior to the Poster Question and Answer Session. Presenters will have the opportunity to sign up for a time slot during the formal Question and Answer sessions scheduled for before and after the formal program of each day.
